You can go with the conventional wisdom that Kristen Stewart truly arrived as a Hollywood player when "Twilight" whipped up a $70 million opening in the fall of 2008. She's gone on to star in subsequent Twi-flicks as well as mature roles in films like "The Runaways" and the upcoming "On the Road."
Or you could take something of a contrarian stance and argue Stewart began her ascent as an A-list star before "Twilight" hit theaters, when the then-18-year-old threw herself into the role of an emotionally scarred stripper in "Welcome to the Rileys," proving, to herself and others, that she had the chops, maturity and creativity to accomplish anything she wanted onscreen.
Fans and critics, however, didn't get to check out her "Rileys" work until the Sundance Film Festival this past January. Now audiences in select cities will get to take in her work, in which she plays a 16-year-old (real name Allison, working-girl name Mallory) who flees to a New Orleans strip club and meets a man (James Gandolfini) who becomes her father figure and attempts to help her pick up the pieces of her broken life.

Wait, Bella's Playing a Stripper?
The fact that Stewart was playing a stripper/prostitute flew mostly under the radar — aside from a few quotes she dropped here and there — until the first photos popped up online in late 2009. One photo showed Stewart in a string bikini top, another the actress as she cowered next to a bed
Sundance arrived the next month, and Stewart made clear audiences shouldn't characterize the film as simply one about a stripper. "[The shocking thing is] maybe that it's not, like, shocking," Stewart told us. "It's really not a stripper movie at all."
Instead, she explained, "Rileys" is best understood as a story of a girl trying to make it on her own — and lacking the skills to pull it off. KStew called it the most personal role of her career.
"It's about understanding who you're playing and you have a responsibility because you feel like you can't let them down," she told us. "[My character] really became a part of me. I haven't felt so personally involved in something."
Stewart Grows Up
Months passed without much "Rileys" news. Then in July the trailer hit the Web, showing the world a very un-Bella-like character. We then brought you a slew of new photos. As Stewart explained to us, she dove into research for the role — and almost ended up with a new job.
"One shocking thing was to find how easy it is [to flaunt your sexuality]," she explained. "Like, I went to a strip club with the director and the costume designer and it being an odd grouping of people going into a strip club in the middle of the afternoon, I was, like, straight-up offered a job."
We're glad she didn't take them up on the offer. Stewart was coming into her own, and she looked and sounded as confident as we've ever seen her when she hit the "Rileys" red carpet earlier this month.
"She's grown up. She's a woman now," "Welcome to the Rileys" director Jake Scott told us, adding that she possessed the seeds of that maturity in October '08 when production on the movie kicked off. "It was an act of courage on her part, especially when you consider she was just 18."

Kanye West Tweets Details Of Jay-Z Collabo Watch The Throne

Kanye West is continuing his jet-setting ways (dude's frequent-flier status is downright Ryan Bingham-y at this point), as he's currently holed up in a studio outside London working on Watch the Throne, his full-length team-up with Jay-Z.
Early Friday morning (October 29), 'Ye took to Twitter to share his excitement about the project — and, really, life in general — and gave fans an update on how the album is shaping up.
"Sitting here in the studio two hours out of London," West wrote. "It's really setting in on me that I'm actually doing a rap album with Jay-Z.
"The [beats] and raps are stuuuupid already! One song down, on to the next!" he added in another tweet. "I was in the audience at [Jay's 1999] Hard Knock Life Tour!"
Last week, West told MTV News that the initial sessions for Throne — originally planned as just a five-song EP featuring both iconic rappers — had been so productive that he decided to scoop some of the best tracks for his upcoming My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. But West added that he was so inspired by the work he'd done with Jay that the dynamic duo were going to turn Throne into a proper album, and said that he and Jay had already booked studio time in the South of France to finish work on it.
"We putting out a whole album now," West told MTV News' Sway. "We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few more of them were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay. But we got some more, and we're going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we'll probably be done with the album in a day."
In his Friday messages, West didn't mention the South of France (though we hear it's lovely this time of year), but did give a bit of information about those new songs he and Jay were working on ... which sound rather, uh, all-inclusive.
"I can never get use[d] to this!" he wrote. "This sh-- we doing is so modern, so hood, so club, so hip-hop ... all of the above!"

DWTS? Audrina Patridge: ?I got to get in touch with myself?
After six amazing weeks of competition, the hills seemed alive for The Hills star Audrina Patridge and her partner, Tony Dovolani, but last night all that changed when the couple were eliminated on Dancing With the Stars.
With the added pressure of two dances to learn this week, a paso doble and a group competition dance, the pressure was on. While the couple executed both routines well and were awarded a very respectable 24 (out of 30) for their solo routine and a further 8 (out of a possible 10 points) for the group number, the judges? harsh critiques soon dampened their elated spirits. ?I wanted them to realize how hard Audrina and I had worked together,? Tony tells In Touch. ?Instead they scolded us. We were so happy after the dance and I even gave out a scream as Audrina gave me what I wanted.?
Many of the couples seemed to struggle with the rock theme, including former front-runner Jennifer Grey, who received her lowest performance score to date. ?I like rock ?n? roll music, but am not sure if it works with ballroom dancing,? Audrina tells In Touch. ?Still, I had a great time and felt good about the night,? she adds.
However, after being advised the couple were in danger early in last night?s elimination show, which also featured some energetic performances by musical guests Heart and Kylie Minogue, the red light eventually revealed their fate.
?I still feel like I wanted more time and there is some unfinished business,? Audrina tells In Touch. ?But I?ll be learning to dance from Tony and Maks and I?ll be back for the finale and the 200th episode party next week, so I?ll be back to visit.?
With a new VH1 reality show in the works, Audrina will be busy with that, along with voting for her remaining DWTS colleagues. ?We are friends with all of them so it?s going to be hard,? laughed Tony when quizzed on whom the couple will be voting for now. ?Maybe there will be a phone call for everyone,? reveals Audrina who also tells In Touch she won?t be back for ABC?s upcoming Skating With the Stars anytime soon. ?I?ll pass on that,? she laughs.
